The power and convenience of the smart phone and iPad is linked to a text-ready, practicing physician. For a small fee, patients can exchange text messages 24/7 with an on-call primary care doctor.

The new Wisconsin-based service, My MD application, is available via the Apple Store for a Free iPhone download or Google Play for Android phone.

"Our aim is to make you feel comfortable when you need the doctor and make it easy and accessible," says president of Click My MD, via TeleHealth Group LLC. The service initially will be available only in Wisconsin, but eventually will become accessible in other states, as well. "It doesn't matter where you are in Wisconsin, at home, traveling or on vacation," explains the company spokesperson. "When you need to talk to a doctor you may do so by contacting him or her through your iPhone, iPad or Android phone." Text messages will be returned in 15 minutes or less.

Once subscribers sign up ($14.95) for the service, payments are made on a per session basis ($14.95), which includes three texts. Several different packages are available for individual needs, while employers or insurance providers also may subscribe for their members.

"It's possible that a quick series of text messages can help you avoid an ER visit or a delayed doctor’s office appointment," says the management. "Click My MD will be a time-saver and a money-saver for patients who prefer to get knowledgeable medical advice quickly, without having to wait for a visit".
